Sutra Nightgowns was inspired by the gift of a silk dressing gown to the founder by her mother. A silk, floral, kimono-style gown in palest jade and blossom pink, it became a foundational piece in her wardrobe and her psyche.
Sutra Nightgowns makes nightwear for women of all ages that is as easy as it is glamorous, influenced by admirable females of the screen, classical literature, history and in contemporary life. The gowns are for relaxing into, whether that be in the company of family, sharing a drink with closest friends, after your bath, or when drifting off to sleep.
We all recognise the importance of clothing in our lives as reflections of how we perceive ourselves, our bodies, and as the embodiments of our dreams. Nowhere is this more resonant than in what we wear in our private spaces.
Sutra, in Sanskrit, literally means ‘thread’. It also means a collection of short verses strung together to form a body of teachings, as in the Yoga Sutras or Kama Sutra. It conveys both connection and refinement. For us, the word is a call to consider our relationship to ourselves and to the natural world, from a simple thread winding off a silk cocoon to the treasured garments that enfold us in our lives.
